Q. What is the mission of Coleman Foundation?
A. Coleman Foundation is a philanthropic organization that is designed to support children, families and older adults with mental health and rehabilitation challenges. The Foundation supports Coleman Professional Services and other organizations that provide excellence in advocacy, leadership and education in mental health and rehabilitation services.

Coleman Foundation supports the highest quality of services in mental health, vocational rehabilitation and other behavioral health needs.

Q. What services and programs does Coleman Foundation support?
A. The Foundation supports a variety of services and programs that improve peoples’ lives including: psychiatry, counseling, employment services, case management, residential services for the homeless, adult day services for older adults who can not safely be at home alone, and suicide prevention training for “first responders."
Q. Who supports the Foundation?
A. Community members who live in, and organizations located in, the seven counties served by Coleman Professional Services: Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull. Additionally, the Foundation is supported by members of the Coleman Foundation and Coleman Professional Services Boards of Trustees, medical staff, management staff, employees, foundations and civic/social organizations. In recent years more than 2,000 individuals or organizations have made a gift to the Coleman Foundation.
Q. What do people give?
A. Most give a gift that addresses a need that interests them and that is within their means. In 2013, Coleman Foundation received gifts that ranged from $1 to $100,000. The most frequent amounts were between $50 and $500.

Q. What is the significance of the name “Coleman”?
A. Coleman Foundation was named for Father Kevin Coleman, a Roman Catholic priest who lived in Kent and was very interested in helping heal people with mental health illnesses. When a group of concerned Portage County residents formed an outpatient community mental health organization in the 1970’s, they named it the Kevin Coleman Center. Originally, when the Foundation was founded, it was named Kevin Coleman Foundation. However in 2006, the name was officially changed to Coleman Foundation.
Q. How is the Foundation connected to Coleman Professional Services?
A. Coleman Professional Services is the primary recipient of the Foundation’s philanthropy. The Foundation operates independently of Coleman Professional Services including a separate governing board.
