Commitments to the Walter Capling Apartments' goal will be applied to the Ohio Department of Mental Health housing grant requiring matching dollar-for-dollar pledges. This challenge grant will make it possible to replace current housing units with 11 new one-bedroom apartments.

Coleman Professional Services initiated residential services in 1982 with the opening of 227 Place, a 12-bed home. Since its creation in 1988, the Coleman Foundation has supported the housing needs of the CPS clients. Today CPS provides safe, affordable housing to over 100 people through 60 housing units and is recognized by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a leader in the field of housing development and operations for persons with mental illness.

Safe, affordable housing is a basic human need. Without housing, it is virtually impossible for our clients to gain employment or achieve their full potential. Our dedication to residential services has secured six government-funded housing projects and 10 years of consistent funding from the Ohio Department of Development.

Walter Capling Apartments Success Story:

“I’m not embarrassed to say that it hasn’t been easy for me and it’s taken the help of other people to get me where I am today. This is the happiest I’ve been in a really long time.”

– A CPS Residential Client

His journey with Coleman Professional Services began with psychiatric services. Now at age 60, he spends two days at Coleman Adult Day Services talking with friends and participating in activities. However, the Coleman service that changed his destiny was Franklin Apartments. For the past 10 years, he has lived in a CPS apartment where staff assists him with daily health challenges. Today his psychiatric appointments are semi-annual. Best of all, he has a place for his daughter to come visit.
