Coleman Professional Services will create a Center of Excellence for Children focusing on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The Center will be adjacent to an existing building at Coleman’s Kent facility.

ADHD affects an estimated 2 million young school-age children and an unknown number of teenagers. Properly diagnosed, it is treatable. Coleman’s clinical staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, counselors and case managers is experiencing a rapid increase of children suffering from ADHD.

This facility will target the assessment and treatment of complex behavioral problems including ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Aspergers’ Disorder. These disorders can resemble each other and even co-occur.

Establishing a total treatment program for a child or adolescent takes careful thought, planning and support. A successful total-treatment program requires a coordinated effort – a team focused on the child. Proper assessment and treatment can lead to prompt improvement, identification of useful tools for families and long-term reduction in symptom severity.

When all services and personnel are situated inside one facility, clients experience the best clinical practice model available.

Center of Excellence Success Story:

“During a follow-up session, the child drew a relatively advanced picture of a person. She gave it to me saying, ‘thank you for your help. I feel much better.’” – CPS Psychologist

The five-year-old came to the child psychiatrist for assessment through a referral from a psychologist. During the assessment with the psychologist, she was extremely hyperactive, climbing on furniture and throwing toys. There was little expressive language and a significant amount of guttural expressions. The child was placed on medication and scheduled for a return visit two weeks after beginning medication. There was a dramatic reduction of symptoms.
