Personal Assistance Grants
Through Blemaster Goldberg Endowment

Most of us have family or friends to help us in a time of temporary need. Unfortunately, many people with chronic mental illness do not have this kind of network to assist them in an emergency situation. The Blemaster Goldberg Endowment for Personal Assistance Grants provides assistance in the form of individual grants that directly benefit Coleman clients.

These grants provide assistance to address a wide
variety of client’s daily living needs including, auto repair, bus vouchers, emergency/temporary housing, food vouchers, driver’s license renewal, appliances and appliance repair, and urgent home repair.

Coleman Foundation awards $12,000 in small grants each year, with a maximum amount of $500. Each year, Coleman Foundation proves that even the smallest of gifts can help change a person’s life.

Personal Assistance Grant Example
Molly, a 33-year-old Coleman customer, has been severely depressed since her late teens. She has various other medical conditions - including obesity - which affect not only her depression, but her self-esteem as well, causing her to become reclusive. Molly’s sole income is a small social security disability check. When her Coleman treatment team advised her to participate in an exercise regimen, she felt she was unable to afford it. Molly applied for and received a Personal Assistance Grant that paid for six months membership in a YWCA. With the help of her treatment team, she actively participated in her exercise program. Not only has Molly’s health improved, but she has also had a noticeable weight loss and her perception of herself has improved. Her network of friends and interest in outside activities has increased since receiving her Personal Assistance Grant from Coleman Foundation.
